Year 6 visited the Fire Station to take part in this years event. Bikeabailty, Power suppliers, Fire and Rescue, RNLI and Nexus Talked with children about staying safe and how they can be great citizens.
Well done to Year 6 and the Year 5 children for their fantastic efforts during the Mini Great North run. Sir Mo Farah spoke brilliantly during the question and answer session. He told the children that practice, hard work and dedication are the secrets to success; no matter what you are trying to achieve.
It has been a fun packed week in Year 6. We have visited Marine Park and built our own planets! One our favourite activities 5is week has been our work on ‘Big dreams’. These are a selection of books which highlight prominent people from society (past & present). We chose Elton John. The children had a brilliant time learning about Elton’s contributions to our society.

This week (Feb 6th – Feb 12th) children at Marine Park have been taking part in Children’s Mental Health Week.
The theme this year is “Let’s Connect” and children have been exploring the benefits of finding and making connections with others and how building positive connections can improve mental health.
Children took part in a whole school assembly delivered by a member of the Healthy Minds Team, who have previously delivered PHSCE sessions in Y1 and Y3.
This week children will be completing tasks in class that highlight different ways to connect with others.

Yesterday, KS2 were joined by a professor from Northumbria University. We were able to talk about the Professor’s early life and what had lead her to becoming an engineer.
She shared stories of projects she is currently working on and projects she has completed in the past. The children were fantastic, and left the assembly asking questions about engineering and 3d printing in particular.

Today, Y6 have been continuing their learning on the human circulatory system. They recapped their learning on the heart and continued to investigate the properties of blood!
To find out more we made ‘blood smoothies’ We substituted honey nut loops for red blood cells; cheese balls for white blood cells; sugar strands for platelets and added yellow food colouring for our plasma.
