Today the winners of the Little Inventors competition were announced and we had two winning designs in our class! Congratulations to our winners who created a floral turbine and a running turbine. The winning designs will be brought to life by specialist makers. The floral turbine will be made into a model and the running turbine will be made into an animation. Well Done to our winners!
The children in Reception Class worked with Mel from NUSTEM today to find out about what it means to be a pharmacist. They had great fun exploring how to dissolve things in water.
Reception Class worked with Mel from NUSTEM to build a bridge as part of the work we have been doing about how to be a Civil Engineer
This morning, we were lucky to have some special visitors to launch the new little inventors competition in school. Inventor Dominic showed us some of his inventions and encouraged us to get creative and invent something to power the future. Alex showed us some of last years winners and together they presented one of our very own children with their winning model!
As part of our NHS Careers Day activities, children in Y3 were asked to consider all the different types of jobs they could do in their community. Children were surprised to learn that many could also be done in the NHS!
Children read Sophie’s Story to gain an understanding of all the different types of roles available in the NHS, before designing posters to showcase the variety of jobs on offer.
Year 2 looked at the amazing work done by each member of our NHS. Can you guess which role they have shown in their posters?
To celebrate International Women’s Day, girls from Year 4 took part in a careers speed networking event. The event took place at South Shields Town Hall and we got the chance to find out about a range of careers from successful women in their chosen field of work. Here are some of the women we met.
Gail – Doctor working in Health protection
Kay – Community Investment Manager at Dogger Bank Wind Farm
Ruth Berkley – Councillor
Today, the Reception Class met a real author and illustrator at The Word. Monique read us her own stories and showed us how to make a little paper mouse. It was great fun!
In Reception class this week, Mel and Caitlin came in to talk about how to be a ‘Civil Engineer’. We made our own designs for an island. Next week, we will create a model of our designs. The children had lots of amazing ideas for a fun island to visit including a rainbow island, a flower island and a train island. Mikaeel even had a jet-ski to leave his island for supplies.
Year 4 really enjoyed working alongside author Steven Camden to create a story. This linked nicely to our literacy work where we have been dreaming up our own fantasy world to create a portal story based on The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe by C.S.Lewis.
