Year 4 have been finishing our Free School Meals Campaign with Pip. We completed filming today. We tried a few different ways to film and can’t wait to see the finished video.
Year 4 have been taking part in workshops ran by the team at Healthy Minds. This week we learnt about confidence and how what we think can affect our behaviour.
This week, the Y3 school councillors have been learning about democracy by taking part in the Staryland Event at South Shields Town Hall. Children took part in activities with groups from other schools, before meeting the mayor and taking part in a hustings to elect the new leader of Staryland.
Pupils in school this week have been celebrating International Women’s Day. We have researched the lives of several inspirational women and discussed the importance of fairness and equality.
Children in Year 3 were asked to think about people who inspire them in their own lives and create a fact file all about their own role models, including what they had inspired them to want to become in the future.
As part of our PSHE focus into Citizenship, Year 5 explored “Rules and Responsibilities” of school and life outside of school.
They explored how laws are made in the UK and who makes them. Additionally, they reviewed the structure of UK courts and the significance of juries. As a result, they took part in a model courtroom and attempted to convince a jury of their peers as as to who was guilty or not!
This week, students in Marine Park have been taking part in Children’s Mental Health Week. This year’s theme is “Your Voice Matters” and children spent time thinking about how they could use their voices to make positive changes.
After kick starting the week with a whole school assembly, children went on to complete activities in class. Y3 children had to design their dream day and then write a letter to one of their classmates, explaining a positive action they had done and how it made them feel.
Children from Y1-5 also took part in a series of mindfulness workshops, focussing on keeping calm and dealing with worries.
As part of Children’s Mental Health Week, Years 1 and 2 took part in a Wellness Workshop delivered by Luna Blu Creative Arts Therapy. They made clay models of themselves and enjoyed a wonderful start to the day.

This week, as part of our work on Health and Wellbeing, children discuss the positive impact of relaxation on the body.
Children then practiced a series of Yoga poses to help them ease muscle tension and relax.
Year 4 have been raising money to support Children in Need by dressing up in spotty or yellow clothes.
