This week children have taken part in the 2025 Red Nose Day. Children were asked to wear something red for a £1 donation to Comic Relief. Well done to everyone who took part and raised a fabulous amount for charity.
Children in Y3 used this time to explore the history of Red Nose Day by scripting and performing their own Newsround reports on the history and purpose of Comic Relief.
This week, children in school have been taking part in a range of activities as part of Children’s Mental Health Week 2025.
Children in Year 3 took time to reflect on what makes them unique, their likes and dislikes as well as their hopes and ambitions for the future. They then discussed what would them achieve their goals.
This week, as part of the Decider Skills workshop, the explored the skills “it will pass” and “right now”. Children discussed scenarios where they had felt upset, stressed and anxious and how it felt like it would never end. We were introduced to the “it will pass” skullcap, where children were encouraged to think almost lucidly about the situation they find themselves in and how it will eventually pass us by. Furthermore, we looked at “right now”, a visualisation technique used to escape a stressful scenario and, instead, review a more relaxing scenario.
Children have been learning about the importance of reducing food waste as part of our work with the Eat Smart project. The project launched today with a special assembly where children learned all about the benefits of reducing food waste, such as how much money they could save and how it helps protect the environment.
Children in school will work with Eat Smart staff, and specially selected Waste Warriors, to reduce the amount of food waste in school over the coming weeks.
This week, Year Five began a six-week program detailing how children their age can regulate their emotions. We looked at “the fizz”. The feeling where we all begin to feel overwhelmed and ready to explode.
Pupils explored STOPP decider skills, as well as the five finger breathing technique to calm us down in situation where we feel anxious or stressed.
This afternoon, children have been learning how to build their own confidence and resilience. Working with our visitor from the Healthy Minds Team, children discussed helpful and unhelpful thoughts and how they can effect our actions.
Children then produced a list of the skills they felt confident about and how they can use them in daily life.
This week, children have been taking part in Odd Socks Day, as part of Children’s Mental Health Week.
Children have been learning about respect and tolerance. As well as showing support by wearing odd socks, they working in groups to perform role plays showing disrespectful and respectful was to resolve conflicts.
Children have been learning about how to support their mental health needs as part of Mental Health Day 2024.
Children discussed what the term mental health meant to them before discussing useful strategies they could use to support their own needs, as well as the needs of others.
Children then went on to identify positive and negative emotions linked to experiences and discussed how to recognise these feelings when they arise.
Today we voted for our School Council. Children who wished to be candidates spoke to their class and shared their manifesto. Votes will be counted and we are awaiting the results.
Today, Year Five had a visit from two members of Northumbria Police. The purpose of the visit was to advertise and explain the role of ‘Mini Police’. Children were given the opportunity to ask questions about the scheme and the ‘Mini Police’ role before applying to be one of a lucky 10 representatives from Marine Park. Those who are successful in applying will have the chance to meet the Police Mounted Unit as well as visit the local station, the cells and the local Police Dive Centre.
