Please see the following update shared with us by Northumbria Police regarding Anti-Social Behaviour in the local area:
As we move into the summer months, Northumbria Police are seeing an increase in anti-social behaviour. Please see the below information in relation to recent incidents:
• We are aware of recent reports of anti-social behaviour at a disused building in South Shields.
• It is understood that groups of young people have been trespassing inside of what was formerly The Waters Edge pub on South Foreshore.
• While the property is not currently in use, it remains privately owned – meaning that anyone found on the land is trespassing.
• Officers from Northumbria Police will continue to work with partners, including South Tyneside Council and Tyne and Wear Fire & Rescue Service, to crackdown on this behaviour.
• The landowners have been informed – and work is ongoing to further secure the building.
• We would also remind everyone that trespassing is a criminal offence, and the state of the building could pose a serious safety risk.
• We would ask parents and carers to talk to children about where they are heading and explain the dangers associated with visiting the site.
• Anyone with concerns should get in touch using the ‘Report’ tool on the Northumbria Police website or call 101.
• In an emergency, or where a crime is taking place, always dial 999.
