Geography Curriculum Statement
At Marine Park we provide a high quality, ambitious and bespoke Geography curriculum, which inspires in pupils a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people, that will remain with them for the rest of their lives. In line with the whole school PACE curriculum, teaching and learning is organised to ensure that children of all academic and physical abilities are able to thrive and achieve their potential. Our teaching will equip pupils with knowledge about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes. We ensure that their learning is enriched through a variety of first hand experiences; adding to their cultural capital. We expect that as pupils progress, their growing knowledge about the world should help them to deepen their understanding of the interaction between physical and human processes, and of the formation and use of landscapes and environments. We recognise the importance of nurturing a culture where our children can successfully use their geographical knowledge to provide them with the tools, and approaches, that help them confidently explain how the Earth’s features at different scales are shaped, interconnected and change over time, as well as considering what actions are needed to create places that better fulfil human needs and interests. Both staff and pupils see the study of geography as a pathway to future careers, jobs and learning opportunities.
